Bert Bisperink: Beans
Bean sculptures. It all starts with material. Carrara marble, Portuguese marble, Belgian bluestone, Irish bluestone. Different in colour like the columns of the Mezquita in Cordoba. Stone is heavy, rough and unruly. Polished, stone is as soft as the skin of a legume. The enlarged beans fit in the boxes like a bean in a pod. They are strange creatures looking for a place to ground themselves. And if you can touch them? Yes, they can be petted.
